Salem Police investigating a serious motor vehicle crash.

News Release from: Salem Police Dept.
Posted: March 11th, 2013 6:46 PM

At 4:56 p.m., the Salem Police Department responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle accident at Liberty Rd S and Davis Rd S involving a single motor vehicle and a skateboarder. It is expected that Liberty Rd S will be closed in both directions for the next two hours while the accident is being investigated. The Salem Police Department Traffic Control Unit is investigating the crash. The investigation is on-going, but from what officers have learned, a 1997 Ford Econoline van (white in color)operated by a 63-year old male was traveling northbound on Liberty Rd S when a skateboarder proceeded off of Raineer Dr SE directly into the path of the van. The skateboarder is 20 years of age. The driver of the van remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The 20-year old skateboarder suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. It appears alcohol may be a factor in this investigation.
