Two Captains with the Salem Fire Department recently earned promotions to the rank of Battalion Chief, following a comprehensive promotional exam process held last month at the department. Both promotions were a result of two recent retirements - Battalion Chief Bob Davis and Battalion Chief Scott Parker, who both retired in 2012.
Reed Godfrey was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief effective February 13, 2013, and is assigned to C-Shift, commanding the north battalion. Chief Godfrey was hired by the Salem Fire Department in March of 1998 and has served in positions as Firefighter/Paramedic, Medic Evaluator, Apparatus Operator/Engineer, Captain, and Division Chief of Safety and Special Operations. He has also held positions on the Oregon Urban Search and Rescue Team, the Oregon Hazardous Materials Team, and Salem Fire Department special operations teams including technical rescue, hazardous materials, and water rescue. Chief Godfrey has also been a member of the Oregon Incident Management Team in the capacity of Incident Safety Officer.
Robin Chitwood was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief effective February 15, 2013, and is assigned to B-Shift, commanding the north battalion. Chief Chitwood was hired by the Salem Fire Department in October 1991 and has served in positions as Firefighter/Paramedic, EMS Coordinator, Apparatus Operator/Engineer, and Captain. He also served on specialty teams within the department including technical rescue, SWAT medic, and hazardous materials response.
A promotional ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013 at 4:00 p.m., which will be held at Fire Station #1, 370 Trade Street SE in Salem.
