Release Text: The Salem Police Department Chief Jerry Moore and the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police remind drivers to help keep motorists and roadways safe by bringing an end to the practice of texting and driving.

Chief Moore: "Did you know that texting and driving is twice as dangerous as driving drunk? Hello, this is Jerry Moore, Salem Police Department Chief of Police. If you text and drive -- please stop. Not only is it illegal, it is deadly. This message is brought to you by your local police chiefs because we care about your safety. Texting and driving is killing thousands of people a year. Please don't text and drive. The life you save could be yours. Thank you."
