Posted: November 16th, 2012 1:14 PM
Salem Police Detectives teamed with the US Marshal's Service Fugitive Task Force to arrest a suspect in a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a bar on November 10.
Salem Police were called to the 501 Cantina at 3255 Portland Rd NE at about 2:11 am on Saturday, November 10 on a report of a person with a gunshot wound. Arriving officers found one victim in the parking lot who had been shot. His wounds were initially believed to be potentially life threatening and he was transported to the hospital for treatment. The suspect had fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.
During the investigation that morning two additional victims who had also been shot in the incident went to Salem Hospital on their own seeking treatment. Neither of those victims sustained life-threatening injuries. Later in the weekend officers contacted one additional victim who had also been shot during the incident. He was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Salem Police Detectives continued their investigation, identifying the suspect in the shootings as 23- year old Salem resident James Wyatt Dentel. Detectives contacted the US Marshal's Service for assistance in locating Dentel, who also had a valid Parole Violation Warrant for his arrest. Agents from the US Marshal's Service Fugitive Task force located Dentel in the Portland area and took him into custody without incident on November 15, and Salem Police Detectives responded and charged him with Assault in the First Degree, three counts of Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The Salem Police Department would like to thank the US Marshal's Service for their assistance in locating this suspect and taking him into custody.
